Retailers across the United Kingdom have started receiving the newest Cuban cigar from the Montecristo Open series: the Open Slam. Although its release was first announced more than two years ago by Habanos S.A., the official launch only took place recently, during the IGNITE 2025 tobacconists trade show hosted in Northamptonshire by Hunters & Frankau, the exclusive importer of Cuban cigars in the U.K.
The Open Slam, characterized by its 5 3/5-inch length and 52 ring gauge, is crafted in a factory format known as "Idílicos"—a size not previously used in the Montecristo Open collection. This cigar becomes the fifth in the line and represents the first new vitola added since the Open series began in 2009.
Designed for casual enjoyment and outdoor leisure, the Montecristo Open series was originally marketed as a milder alternative to the core Montecristo portfolio. The new Slam continues that tradition and is priced at £44.40 per stick (approximately $60), with boxes of 20 retailing for £849.10 (around $1,150).
